DEFINING PURPOSE AND STRATEGIC DIRECTION ENABLING A COHESIVE HIGH PERFORMING TEAM TO OWN AND DELIVER AMBITIOUS GROWTH

THE CHALLENGE

Morgan Philips Talent Consulting has been a trusted partner of Lotus Bakeries China for the past year. With an ambitious growth agenda, Lotus Bakeries wanted to enable their China leadership team to develop and own their destiny: the team themselves creating the strategic direction and actions required to deliver a truly ambitious target. Morgan Philips was asked to facilitate a series of workshops to support the team to identify and build this collective and aligned strategic direction and actions.

HOW WE HELPED

Mike Paxton, Senior Director for Talent Consulting, facilitated 2, 2-day workshops over a period of 3 months in 2021. In this process, the team crafted their purpose, vision (in terms of a truly ambitious target), the ‘pillars’ enabling that vision (with the priorities and actions underpinning these), and most importantly, the ways of working: those key accountable behaviours that are critical enablers for achieving success. The strategy house was confirmed with Lotus Bakeries’ APAC leadership and subsequently launched into the organisation.

THE IMPACT

Developing their purpose, vision, and the ways to achieve has created within the team a tangible sense of ownership, accountability, and the urgency to achieve the stretch goals they set for themselves. This was not imposed top-down but set by the team taking full ownership for creating their future desired state. The behaviours and ways of working that the team identified are also fully aligned with Lotus Bakeries’ Corporate values and competencies for success.

A fantastic outcome whereby the leadership team in China have together, in a genuine spirit of open dialogue, exercising teamwork, and with passion, created a truly ambitious target that they all fully buy into. Along with identifying the priorities needed to achieve this, they created the accountable actions that will enable them to achieve his. This has resulted in an engaged and empowered team!
